A small collection of 4 models, designed and built on the occasion of InScript Experimental Type Festival 2022. This collection is based on variable OT fonts, and each model comes in a Numerus Clausus edition of 26. Every model includes wearable watch faces for AppleWatch ES, 7, 8, and 8 Ultra.

Two models show the time in a numerical loop of 10 seconds, the other two in an alphabetical loop of 26 seconds. Both versions come in a classic black and white version and timeless poetic autumn coloring. In addition, each piece comes with a unique inscription, telling the model name and the Numerus Clausus edition number.

Tempus Scriptus is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the infamous automaton ’The Writer’, which was designed and built by the legendary swiss watchmaker Jaquet-Drotz in collaboration with Henri-Louis Jaquet-Droz and Jean-Frédéric Leschot around 1772. The Automaton is a device in the shape of a small writing boy consisting of 6000 parts. It is perhaps one of the world’s most astonishing surviving automaton. It was firstly presented in public in 1774, where it immediately gathered the attention of the international audience.

While ‘The Writer’ was a writing machine developed and designed by a watchmaker, Tempus Scriptus is going the other way around. Here, a ‘writing letter’ is used as a timing mechanism and visualization of the flow of time. Simply speaking, ‘Tempus Scriptus’ is an Automaton, where the time itself is writing.

Tempus Scritpus is coming in a Numerus Clausus edition of 26, and each model will be custom-built and designed on request.

Designed on the ocassion of the seminar Printemps de la Typographie, organised by l’école Estienne on the 10th of March 2022 in Paris. This collection consists of 33 unique models, which are distributed as NFT on OpenSea. Each model includes also a wearable for the AppleWatch 7. Rollover any watch to see the model in action.
